Mainstream Energy Solutions Limited (MESL), the operators of Kainji and Jebba hydropower plants in Niger State, has donated N10 million to support victims of the Yauri market fire in the state.

The sum was presented to the Emir of Yauri, Alhaji Dr. Zayyanu Abdullahi by the Executive Director of Mainstream Mr. Siraj Abdullahi.

Abdullahi assured that the company will continue to support the communities in the catchment area as much as possible, pointing out that “up till now projects are still ongoing within the Yauri Emirate Council and they will be completed as soon as possible so that the people can benefit from them,”

He listed some of the projects being executed by Mainstream Foundation, which is the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of MESL, across the state as including, the construction of an international standard VVF hospital at Kontagora town.

According to him, between 2016 and 2018, the Foundation completed 222 community projects, youth training and empowerment schemes across Niger and Kebbi states, worth over N570 million.

Abdullahi also prayed for restoration for those who lost goods and other property in the fire incident adding that the Almighty will help to prevent such unfortunate incidences in the future.

The Emir, while accepting the package said Mainstream has done overwhelmingly well in reaching out to communities in his domain.

“The company has shown that it has the goodwill of people in its hearts by building schools and providing them with toilet facilities and furniture, building community health centers and providing boreholes where there was acute shortage of water,” the Emir said.

Representative of the victims, Aliyu Shuabi, who received his portion of the relief funds said, the company had put smile on their faces after such an unfortunate incidence and recalled the company’s past support to various communities, including Yauri community where he lives.
