Lottery Fund aims to boost economic growth – Maigari

The National Lottery Trust Fund (NLTF) is solely operated to stimulate economic growth and interventions in the areas of healthcare, education and disaster management, and not a mainstream lottery as many Nigerians perceive it.

The acting Executive Secretary of the fund, Mallam Bello Maigari, who stated this at the presentation of First Aid cabinets to public secondary schools in Nigeria, said the fund over the years engaged in various interventions in the aspect of healthcare.

He said it is poised to promote quality healthcare for students and also creating and innovating other means of improving the economy through revenue generated from the fund.

“So many countries all over the world including Niger Republic use proceeds of the lottery to fund economic activities.

For instance, 80% of the funds used for the 2012 Olympics in London came from the proceeds of lottery, as such, the government through the fund is determined to use these proceeds for bigger and better national projects including the rail line project that is going to incur a whole lot of money and also stimulate other economic activities,” he said.

The Principal of Government Secondary School Pegi Abuja, Karick Madaki, whose school is a beneficiary said the healthcare intervention came at the right time when public institutions in the country lacked adequate funding to cater for the welfare of students.

He called on government to make healthcare a priority for public secondary schools.
