Director General of the lottery commission, Mr Peter Igho, revealed this when he recently led a team of NLRC staff on a courtesy call on the NBC in Abuja.
He said because NBC regulates and controls the broadcasting industry, it receives, considers and investigates complaints from individuals and corporate bodies like NLRC regarding the contents and conduct of any broadcasting station.
Igho said all media houses should not air lottery adverts without certification from the commission stressing that they should scrutinize such adverts such that don’t suit minors as required by the lottery regulations.
He said sections of the Lottery Act 2005 state that the operation of any lottery on a national or inter-state basis is unlawful and no person shall establish or conduct a lottery at national level or employ the use of national platform or inter-state basis to conduct a lottery.
Secretary to NBC, Mark Ojiah, while receiving the delegation on behalf of the Director General, said the two regulatory bodies will work together because Nigeria needs lots of revenue to get out of its present financial quagmire.
