The Nigerian nation is currently being held to more ridicule as proceedings in courts in the United States are bringing to light unsavoury revelations of unethical and immoral, if not illegal behaviour. As Nigeria slides inexorably down the slippery slope towards total acceptance of immorality in politics and public office, thankfully the populace has stood its ground in refusing to allow social immorality to accompany political rascality. The irony is that Nigerians profess to be godly people, yet the values which religion teaches are only part and parcel of social life, not political careers.
LGBTQ is an acronym which stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgender and Queer. With the exception of South Africa, Cape Verde and Mauritius, most African countries have implemented laws which limit or prohibit LGBTQ rights in the belief that such behaviour is “un-African” and belongs to other parts of the world.
Paradoxically even as Western nations are trying to force Africans to be sympathetic towards LGBTQ behaviour, most of the African laws which criminalise it are relics of the colonial era! Western nations apparently do not see the irony in the fact that they brought the Holy Bible to Africa, yet they want us to approve things the Bible expressly forbids!
While as fellow human beings there is nothing wrong in having compassion for LGBT people, especially those suffering from gender confusion, it simply can never be morally correct to say that same-sex sexual relationships are proper. It is trite that everybody has a right to stretch out their arms, but that even that right ends where another person’s face begins. In other words, nobody has a right to offend another person.

It’s illogical for western nations who pretend to promote values of mutual respect and tolerance, to strive to disrespect the right of Africans to be offended by LGBTQ behaviour. The Ugandan government which has enacted one of the worlds’ toughest anti-LGBTQ laws believes that only morally bankrupt nations would support the LGBTQ agenda.
There is no disputing that the actions of international fraudsters otherwise known as “419 boys” have brought about a worldwide reputation for Nigerian moral bankruptcy and this stain on the nation’s reputation is being enhanced by the actions and utterances of the nations’ political class.
Nothing exemplifies this more than the forgery saga resulting from the 2023 presidential elections. Supposedly “honorable” top politicians are lamentably struggling to defend and justify the ethical and moral bankruptcy involved in the issue. Their unethical actions and unprincipled thought processes are the reason why increasingly disrespect and degrading treatment is given to Nigerians abroad.
Although admittedly Nigerian politicians are generally speaking unpatriotic, immoral, unethical and dishonest, the populace is totally different. On the whole, Nigerians are God-fearing people who ascribe faithfully to their various religious dogmas. They will never be forced to concede ground to proponents of immorality in social life even though they accept it in politics!
In Belgium, the Deputy Prime Minister is the most senior openly transgender politician in Europe. This could never happen in Africa. No matter how hard he/she(?) tries to convince Africans, the truth is that we cannot be bullied into believing that individuals can decide to be any sex they choose to be.
In the United States of America top politician and Secretary for Transportation Pete Buttigieg is “happily” married to another man whom he kisses in public! Buttigieg is the first ever openly gay cabinet member to be confirmed by the Senate. He and his “husband” have even applied to adopt children! Such people would naturally feel that Africans should endorse LGBTQ behaviour. Thankfully opposition to this sordid lifestyle doesn’t only come from so-called “backward” African nations.
In England, a female school teacher was sacked for refusing to teach LGBTQ content in class. She was punished because she insisted on telling her students that LGBTQ practices were sinful and that humans are born as either male or female. She was reported to the Teaching Regulatory Agency (TRA) for refusing to teach small boys and girls about concepts of gender identities, including pansexual, asexual, intersex and transgender.
The societal problems of the British acceptance of the LGBTQ agenda is apparent as according to the latest census data, there are now around 250,000 people who have declared themselves as transgender. In one sad example, two sisters Savita Naidu who is a Miss England contestant and Suchita Naidu her “brother”, grew up as twin sisters but are now brother and sister!
In Nigeria on the other hand, things are different as the Delta State Police recently disrupted a gay (same-sex) marriage ceremony at a hotel in Ekpan Delta State and made over 50 arrests in the process. The fact is that in Nigeria, the police do not go around checking what citizens do in their houses. Matters of what former President Buhari described as “the other room” are personal to each individual. What Nigerians reject, and rightfully so, is public displays of amorous behaviour whether by men and women or same-sex couples. This isn’t America or Europe.
Africans have a right to decide what is acceptable and what is not acceptable in their society. No nation can progress unless there are some values which every citizen has to adhere to. If Nigerians reject immorality in social life but accept it in politics then so be it!
