No fewer than 900 aspirants are vying to contest for the 21 chairmanship and 225 councillorship seats during the October 26 local council polls  under the ruling APC in Kebbi state.

The party’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Alhaji Sani Dododo had at an earlier  press briefing said  800 aspirants have shown interest to contest under the platform of  the party.

However, on Tuesday, an official of the party told Caliphate Trust that the figure has risen to 900.

He said the party has 40 aspirants in Birnin Kebbi, followed by Argungu which has 28 and Suru with 24 aspirants.

Alhaji Dododo had said 300 out of the 800 aspirants are aspiring for the chairmanship positions while the remaining 500 are aspiring for councillorship positions.

He said the party has structured the state into six zones and six committees were set up by  to organize the aspirants so as to reach a consensus.

“We are committed to safeguarding the interest and peace of our party. We opted for consensus and we believe it will be fair for all our aspirants in the state”, he said.

The PRO said equal opportunity would be given to new entrants who defected from the opposition parties.

He said it was not true that the party has given some aspirants a waiver.

“It has come to our knowledge that some aspirants have been showing their supporters expression of interest form that the party has endorsed them. It is bogus and unfounded,” he said.
