Over 800 people have indicated interest to contest in the local government election in Kebbi State on the All Progressives Party (APC) platform.
There are 21 local government areas and 225 wards in Kebbi state.
The spokesman of the party in the state, Alhaji Sani Dododo, told newsmen in Birnin Kebbi that the aspirants have expressed their interests to contest for the election slated for October 26, this year.
He said 300 of the aspirants have indicated interest to contest for chairmanship positions, while 500 are aspiring for councillorship positions.
Dododo said out of the 21 local government areas of the state, Birnin Kebbi has the highest number of aspirants – over 20.
He added that the party has structured the state into six zones and that six committees were set up to handle the consensus in the zones.
“We are committed to safeguarding the interest and peace of our party. We opted for consensus and we believe it will be fair for all our aspirants in the state,” he said.
The spokesman said equal opportunities would be given to new entrants into the party from the opposition parties to contest in the election.
“It has come to our knowledge that some aspirants have been showing their supporters expression of interest forms that the party has endorsed them. It is bogus and unfounded,” he warned.
