The leadership of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akoko-Edo local government area of Edo State protested the alleged imposition of the chairmanship candidate of the party in the forthcoming local government election.

According to them, the party’s action negates the directive that aspirant must win his ward before contesting for the chairmanship position in the forthcoming local government election in the state.

A protest letter signed by Chief Sunny Okomayin and presented to the party’s chairman Anthony Aziegbemi, in Benin, Okomayin said there was attempt to replace the winner of the chairmanship primaries, Engr. Sylvester Amune with Tajudeen Alade .

“We, the Leaders and Constituents of Akoko Edo Local Government hereby reject the attempt to substitute the mandate we willingly gave to Sylvester Amune during the last PDP Local Government Chairmanship primaries held recently at igarra.

“Amune won overwhelmingly due to our resolve to endorse him as our candidate for the chairmanship election scheduled for September2, 2023.

“EDSIEC declared Amune as the winner of the primaries and published his name but they substituted him with Tajudeen Alade that was never cleared in the first instance to contest in the primaries the chairmanship primaries for the forthcoming election”.

According to him, Tajudeen did not meet the party’s stipulated requirement that every aspirant for the post of Local Government chairman must win his unit and ward.

He said despite not meeting the requirements he cleared after the initial disqualification to contest the primaries, adding “on the day of the primaries, Tajudeen disrupted the proceedings on the ground that the delegates list generated by the party didn’t favour him.
