Forty people who had personal contacts with a medical doctor died of Lassa fever have been quarantined in Delta state, the state commissioner of information Pat Ukah said yesterday.
Ukah said those affected included the deceased wife, the driver and the vehicle that took him to Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi, Anambra State, where he died after three hours on admission. Others were the hospital attendants at NAUTH.
Meanwhile, the Anambra state government has commenced training of health officials from various local government areas of the state on Lassa fever prevention following the resurgence of the disease.
Speaking during the training in Awka, yesterday public health expert, Dr Jane Ezeonu expressed worry over the prevalence of the disease, saying eight states were currently reporting cases of Lassa fever.
