Governor Abdulrahman Abdulzazaq on Sunday appointed a seven-person Board of Arabic Education....

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulzazaq of Kwara State, on Sunday, appointed seven people as members of the Board of Arabic Education.
The development is coming barely a month after some students of the Misbaudeen Al-Islamiy Arabic School, Ganmon, were publicly flogged for attending a birthday party.
The issue had generated widespread outcry within and outside the country as Muslim scholars debated the place of corporal punishment in Islam.
Consequently, the state government set up a 10-member committee to probe the situation.
The committee which was headed by a former Grand Khadi of the Kwara State Shariah Court of Appeal, Justice Idriss Haroon (retd), submitted its report about two weeks ago.
It recommended the immediate constitution of the Arabic board to attend to all issues concerning Arabic education in the state.
The new board is headed by Prof Mashood Mahmud of Kwara State University, Malete who holds a doctoral degree in Arabic Education.
The statutory board which has Abbas Nurein Sunkanmi as Secretary also has Dr Ahmad Abubakar Agbaje who represents the Proprietors of Arabic Schools in the state as a member.
Other members are the state Director of Public Prosecution, Mumini Adebimpe (SAN), who represents the Ministry of Justice, Hajia Arabiat Hussein; Abdullahi Muhammad Namallam, the representative of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) and Hajia Hafsat Titi Oloriegbe-Alao.
