The dry season rice farmers in Kebbi State yesterday said they are finding it difficult to continue with rice production activities in the state because of the scarcity of petrol.
While speaking to Daily Trust in Birnin Kebbi the chairman Rice Farmers Association in Kebbi State, Alhaji Sahabi Augie said the fuel situation had incapacitated the dry season farmers who relied on petrol to power their pumping machines for the watering of the rice farms across the 21 local government areas of the state.
He said, “We don’t have dams here to water our farms. We relied solely on the pumping machines to water our farms but unfortunately the fuel scarcity is hampering rice production activities here. We are currently buying a litre of petrol for N220. This is making it difficult for many rice farmers who have up to 15 or 200 hectares of rice field to wet.”
