The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda Chapter, has given a two week ultimatum to the federal government to suspend or remove  the Rector of the institution Engr Ahmad Abubakar Lugga or face consequences.

The Union had in March this year passed a vote of no confidence on the Rector for alleged mismanagement of N3 bn which according to them has led to infrastructural decay in the polytechnic. However, the rector had denied the allegations.

The chairman of the Union comrade Umar Usman Maikunkele while briefing newsmen in the institution said that the Rector who is on compulsory leave is still controlling the finances of the polytechnic.

"His intervention in to the financial dealings with the institution has led to the misappropriation of over N49 million from the promotion arrears sent by the federal government," Maikunkele added.

The Union further alleged a connivance between the rector and some staff of the federal ministry of education citing the delay  and frustration of the process in suspending the Rector as recommended by the Governing Council report which was submitted to the minister of education.

"The Union has issued a two week from 13th June 2018 that if the government fails to do the needful the Union will have no option than to take a new action. The academic and administrative activities in the polytechnic are almost coming to a standstill," he added.
