Kaunda who was in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital on Friday, to felicitate with former Commissioner for Women Affairs and now Ambassador to Zambia, Mrs Folake Marcus-Bello, on her 50th birthday, urged the former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and Ogun State governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, to ensure that the country remained one of the countries at the forefront of eliminating HIV/AIDS in the continent.

The former Zambian president at a courtesy call on Obasanjo at his Presidential Hill estate, described Obasanjo as a great African nationalist, “whose wealth of experience is not only needed by Nigeria, but the entire Africa. You are a great African nationalist, and we shall continue to come to you in moving the continent forward.”

Obasanjo, while responding, said that contrary to media reports on the country, the people were still one and indivisible citizens. He stressed that though there were often differences, “but, we are still jolly-jolly people, contrary to what the media will always report about us.”

At the Sagamu residence of the State governor, Kaunda also restated the call for the HIV/AIDS fight, even as he acknowledged the developmental efforts the government has made in transforming the state. He described the Nigerian Zambia Ambassador as “a daughter” whom he was well pleased with as the country’s representative in Zambia.

Governor Daniel told his guest that the visit to the Zambian republic by his government had begun to yield fruits, with the establishment of some companies in the state.
