The Katsina State Government has begun biometric data capturing of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state to check fraud among them.

Dr Aminu Waziri, the Executive Secretary, Katsina State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), made this disclosure to newsmen in Katsina on Thursday.

He said that the IDPs were state indigenes affected by the Boko Haram insurgency in the North-eastern part of the country.

Waziri said that most of the IDPs were living with their family members across the state.

He said the exercise would enable the government to make some provisions for the affected people in order to improve on their living condition.

“We want to know who are the real IDPs because some people also claim to be part of them and actually, they are not.

‘’We are going to use the information to secure more assistance from the Federal Government and international humanitarian organisations,’’ he said.

Waziri explained that work had reached advanced stage on the construction of permanent IDPs camp in the state by the Federal Government.

He said the State Government would also construct a school in the camp and train the IDPs on various vocational skills to make them self-reliant back home.

Waziri added that the government would provide more basic amenities in the camp with the aim of improving their living conditions.

The secretary also said that the government would establish Local Emergency Committees in all the 34 Local Government Areas of the state.

He said that the committee members were expected to alert the agency immediately for action in case of any looming disaster in their respective areas. (NAN)
