Chairman of Kano Municipal Area Council, Alhaji Mukhtar Ishaq Yakasai, has called a meeting with traditional rulers and other stakeholders to find a lasting solution to high rate of rape, drug abuse and thuggery in the council.
The chairman said the rate of rape cases, divorce and drug abuse in Kano municipal was alarming, hence the need for stakeholders to brainstorm and put an end to the menace.
He said his administration was disturbed by the high rate of rape cases which were mostly perpetrated by youth under the influence of drugs.
Yakasai added that he would formulate a law to would ban all form streets hawking and frying of snacks in the late evening hours within the municipal area council.
Also speaking at the meeting, state Commandant of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Hamza Umar called on parents to monitor their children’s movement and be vigilant of the kind of friends they keep.
He said Kano state had the highest rate of codeine and other cough syrup abuse by youth in the country.
Wamban Kano and District Head of Kano Municipal, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero said the Kano emirate was in support of the chairman effort to rid the state of all forms of social vices.
Represented by Alhaji Aliyu Harazimi, Wambai commended the chairman for the meeting which he described as a good initiative.
