The Chief Judge of Kano State, Justice Dije Abdu Aboki, said the state High Court has disposed of about 71,914 cases out of 102,234 cases in the  2022/2023 legal year.

Aboki spoke at a special court session to mark the beginning of the new 2023/2024 legal year of the court and valedictory  Court Session in honour of retired and late judges of Kano State.

She said the judiciary currently has 30,320 pending cases. “The cases include criminal and civil cases from State High Court, Magistrate Court and Shari’a Court. Out of the 102, 234 total cases received, 29,108 were criminal out of which 23,009 were disposed of.

“The appeal section of the High Court successfully translated over 90 percent of documents and records of proceedings received from litigants and Upper Shari’a Court.

“In legal practice before the start of each legal year reviewing the success as well as challenges of the previous legal year would help in projecting speedy dispensation of justice.  Relocating courts to other places that were in deplorable condition contributed to delay in the disposal of cases”, Justice Aboki said.

She commended Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf, for approving the completion of the abandoned court in Zaria Road and Zungeru Road Kano for speedy dispensation of justice.

On his part, Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf expressed his administration’s commitment to collaboration with the judiciary for the effective administration of justice and welfare of judicial staff.

He commended the Chief Judge and Grand Khadi of Kano, as well as judicial officers for their overwhelming support and tireless efforts.
