Kala Balge attack: Fleeing pregnant woman gives birth in the bush

Spokesman of Kala- Balge, Alhaji Abba Abdulmuminu, told newsmen in Bauchi that the woman was among thousands of indigenes who have fled the area.
Abdulmuminu said: “Last month, the community repelled insurgents attack on the town and killed over 200 of them.  As a result of that attack, Boko-Haram members regrouped and massively killed  people of Kala-Balge community. In fact, as I am talking to you now, almost all the people of the area have fled. Some of them are now residing along the Cameroon-Nigeria border while some others are in the bushes. Yesterday, I spoke to my people and they told me a woman delivered in the bush on Tuesday. There is no water, no shelter and no food there because it is a semi-desert area. Even those living along the borders do not have shelter; they are under the sun”.
He faulted a report where the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) director in Borno State allegedly called on representatives of Kala-Balge to come to its office and collect relief materials for their people.
“I have never seen where such a thing is done. If there are emergency situations, NEMA is expected to convey relief materials to the people. So, why are they now asking the people of Kala-Balge to come and collect their relief materials. If NEMA has security challenges, they should go to the government and tell them,” he said.
He said he has not heard from his mother and many of his relations who fled since the last attack, and appealed to the federal government to deploy troops to the area.
“The people of Kala-Balge are calling on the federal government to deploy troops to that area, because in the next few days if nothing is done, there will be humanitarian crisis. The people are   dying of starvation. We want the federal government to emulate Cameroon by sending  troops to the border between Nigeria and Cameroon. If the troops are stationed there, the attacks will reduce”, he said.
