Arase spoke yesterday when he declared open a two-day training workshop for police public relations officers from the 36 state commands and zonal commands in the country holding in Abuja.
He told the PROs to stop being reactive and move away from a habit of issuing rejoinders, stating that: “Nothing prevents you from organizing town hall meetings, bringing the mechanics, student union bodies, market women and explaining to them what the policy thrust of this administration is all about.”
Arase added that: “You must be able to reach out to members of the community; I will expect that as public relations officers, you go to secondary school and higher institutions to talk to them about the disadvantages of drug addiction, kidnapping gangs, or criminal gangs.”
He also told them not to be adverse to criticisms: “Criticisms are good for you; they make you to take a look at yourself and aspire for higher standards so whenever our brothers in the fourth estate of the real criticize you, it is not that they hate you.”
