The relative peace which the residents of Kabusa, a suburb of Federal Capital Territory, Abuja have enjoyed over the years is now fast turning into a nightmare.
Some miscreants suspected to be members of a gang of criminals unleashed mayhem in the area, and carted away with the victims’ valuables worth fortunes, our correspondents learnt.
One of our sources, who craved anonymity, told our reporter how his co-tenant narrowly escaped untimely death in the hands of the syndicate.
His words: “It was around 11pm on that fateful day, when some men drove into the compound and headed for his apartment. We all thought they are his visitors, but after sometimes, we heard a loud scream from the apartment. We all ran for refuge when we discovered that the suspected visitors are wolves in sheep clothing. The victim (name withheld) was tied and dealt machete cuts all over his body before he was quickly rushed to the hospital for treatment.”
Recounting his ordeal in the hands of the criminals, Mr. Ayuba, a trader informed our correspondents that he was robbed while he was on his way home after a day’s sales.
“Immediately I alerted from the bike, two unknown persons attacked me with sharp knives, warning me not to prove stubborn, and asked me to surrender all my belongings. That’s how they made away with all my sales for the day,” he said
Another victim, a hair stylist who pleaded anonymity, said she was standing on the road to board a cab to her shop when suddenly an unknown person on a bike snatched her bag which contained a sum of N10,000.
Another source who identified himself only as Adejoh informed our reporter of two cases of shop breaks in his area. He said a boutique shop was broken two weeks ago by the criminals who carted away with his goods worth fortunes. He also told our reporter that the same fate befell a restaurateur, Mrs. Ifeoma whose restaurant was broken and her refrigerator carted away by the criminals.
When contacted, the FCT police spokesperson, ASP Anjuguri Manzah, told our reporter that the command has not received any complaint from the quarters. He further reiterated police’s commitment to ensure security of lives and properties. He said the force has recorded a huge achievement in this regard, adding that the command has paraded many criminals in the recent weeks.
Anjuguri, therefore, urged members of general public to assist the police with useful information that will help to curb crime in the territory.
