JUSUN, after a national executive council (NEC) meeting in Abuja, said strike became necessary, considering the “rough terrain” its leadership has been forced to encounter on union’s demand for state governors to implement the judgment of the Federal High Court delivered on January 13, 2014 on judicial financial autonomy.
It said the strike will only be suspended upon total compliance with the judgment of the court and the terms contained in the MOU.
A communiqué jointly signed by JUSUN’s President Comrade Marwan Mustapha Adamu and Assistant General Secretary Comrade Placidus Nnamani accused governors of deliberately disobeying and frustrating the independence of the judiciary.
JUSUN said the act amounts to “insincerity and insensitivity” and a conspiracy against a democratic principle in a bid not to allow a constitutional guarantee for an arm of government to exercise its statutory duty.
The communiqué accused the Accountant General of the Federation of allegedly compromising his position and authority by refusing to implement a court order.
The union had on November 27, 2014, suspended a planned strike action following the signing of an MOU after a peace meeting at the behest of the Minister of Labour, Tanimu Turaki. It says the pact was breached during the last Federation Account Allocations Committee (FAAC) meeting in December 2014.
