However, the exercise, according to reports from the states, has been marred by a number of irregularities and equipment failure.
Some registrants complained of being asked to come along with their photograph for the registration, while some alleged to have been asked for money before they could be registered.
Spokesperson of the INEC chairman, Kayode Idowu however said the extension followed the “huge turn out” of registrants in the states and therefore decided to allow eligible persons get captured in the registration.
“The exercise, which was originally scheduled to end on Sunday, 1st June, 2014, will now run till Tuesday, 3rd June 2014, in the following states: Taraba, Gombe, Zamfara, Kebbi, Benue, Kogi, Abia, Enugu, Akwa-Ibom and Bayelsa,” Said Idowu in a statement.
“INEC calls on eligible persons in the states involved in the exercise that are yet to register as voters to use the opportunity of this extension to do so.”
