Jamilu Abdullahi of NEPA road, Kubwa was convicted for joint act and theft, offences contrary to sections 79 and 287 of the penal code.
The police prosecutor, Igono Icholi, told the court that the complainant, Prince Ayemi Clement of Mabushi, on June 7, reported at the Kubwa police station how the accused and two others presently at large jointly stole his 23 pieces of 12mm iron rods valued at N70,000.
He said the accused also stole pieces of roofing aluminum sheets valued at N1,000.
When the charges were read to the accused, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five weeks’ imprisonment by the judge, Mohammed Marafa, with an option of N5,000 fine.
Similarly, three persons have been arraigned before an Abuja Grade 1 Area Court for smoking Indian hemp at Dei-Dei in the Abuja Municipal Area Council of the FCT.
The accused, all of Dei-Dei were charged with public nuisance, an offence contrary to Section 198 of the Penal Code.
The police prosecutor, Igono Icholi, told the court that the accused were found in possession of weed, suspected to be Indian hemp which they were smoking in a public place.
He said they could not give satisfactory account of themselves when they were caught, adding that their actions caused harm to members of the public.
When the charges were read to the accused, they pleaded not guilty and were granted bail in the sum of N20,000 each by the judge, Mohammed Marafa, with one reasonable surety, who must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
The case was adjourned to July 27, for hearing.
