Inspector General of Police (IGP) Solomon Arase has ordered all State Command Commissioners of Police (CPs) to immediately convene town hall meetings in their respective states towards addressing internal security challenges.
A statement on Monday from police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Olabisi Kolawole said the IGP also directed Assistant Inspector General’s of Police (AIGs) to coordinate the process in their Zones.
She said the directive is part of strategic police initiatives aimed at adopting community policing practices in addressing internal security challenges.
Kolawole said the IGP ordered that the meeting should specifically address the misinformation, anxiety and animosity between local communities and herdsmen.
She said the IGP directed that the meetings should be held at State, Area Commands and at Divisional levels, to enhance the process of reassurance policing.
