EHA Clinics REACH (Reaching Everyone with Accessible Community Health), a community-based intervention providing quality, low-cost primary healthcare in underserved low-income, urban communities, has been selected as part of the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Health Equity Initiative, a $40 million, three-year commitment, supporting organisations that are developing solutions to advance health equity.

Daily Trust reports that health inequity persists in several communities in Nigeria with people in the rural area lacking access to basic healthcare needs and suffering from untimely deaths as a result of absence of medical care.

With its selection, REACH will receive computing credits and technical expertise from Amazon Web Services to develop innovative healthcare solutions and address specific healthcare challenges within disadvantaged communities, reaching everyone with accessible community health, particularly those from the underserved low-income demographic.

Through the initiative, REACH will improve health outcomes and health equity across diverse communities, particularly through the organisation’s empanelment initiative focusing on patients with hypertension, diabetes, and sickle cell disease.

This program oversees patients to help lower morbidity and mortality rates by increasing access to health services for underserved communities, leveraging data to promote more equitable and inclusive systems of care such as telemedicine, mobile pharmacy, etc., and advancing equity in diagnostics and screening.

In response to the positive development, Paul Hogan, Executive Vice-President/Chief Operating Officer, at EHA Clinics said, “We are thrilled to receive this generous support from AWS.

“We appreciate the AWS Health Equity Initiative and we are aligned in their efforts to address health disparities and promote health equity. Recently, we secured a central location for our REACH Clinics in Gyadi-Gyadi, Taurani LGA Kano State, and Kuje LGA, Abuja.

“The support from the AWS Health Equity Initiative will further our mission of providing healthcare tailored to the community’s unique needs and concerns while expanding our capacity to new communities.”

“AWS believes individual health outcomes should not depend on socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, or neighbourhood,” said Maggie Carter, Global Lead of Social Impact at AWS.

She added, “Cloud technology can help address inequities in global health to expand access to the services people need to live longer, healthier lives–no matter who they are or where they live. Through the AWS Health Equity Initiative, we look forward to helping REACH and other organizations worldwide use the power of cloud computing to advance health equity and improve health outcomes.”
