A renowned activist, Comrade Ramatu Tijjani has called on both federal and state government to place a ban on sale of secondhand underwear and clothes in rural and urban markets in Nigeria to save women from contracting all forms of diseases and infections.
She made the call while sensitizing female children in ghettos and internally displaced persons’ camp on early signs, symptoms and dangers of breast cancer. She stressed the need to educate children in communities across Nigeria, saying, “We are moving from ghetto to ghetto and IDP camps to create awareness among female children; we are also planning to take the campaign to villages and rural women farmers. Majority of breast cancer campaign focuses on mature women living in towns and cities, forgetting the rural women living in villages. We decided to change the pattern of the campaign by moving to remote areas and meeting with IDPs with the aim of teaching the young ones early signs and symptoms, to find quick solution to tackling it before it reaches the chronic stage,” she said.
She said the campaign tagged, ‘Catch them young before they grow,’ began in November and would end on December 20, 2016.
