The Minister of State for Industry,Trade and Investment, Hajiya Aisha Abubakar, has said the establishment of industrial clusters will solve the challenges of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the country.
Hajiya Abubakar was speaking at the presentation of the feasibility study report for the transformation of some Industrial Development Centres (IDCs) to Industrial Clusters in Abuja yesterday.
“The objective of this study is to provide comprehensive information on investment opportunities and the anticipated economic and technical net benefits of the proposed industrial clusters that we hope will resolve most of the challenges faced by MSMEs, with particular regard to accessing workspace and common amenities like internet access, water, power and roads,” she said.
The Director General of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), Dr. Dikko Umaru Radda, said the objective of redeveloping the 23 IDCs into Industrial Clusters on the basis of Public Private Partnership (PPP) was the preferred solution for providing critically needed infrastructure and network platforms for MSMEs.
Dr. Radda said, “The goal of the project is to undertake study on the viability of the IDCs in preparation to redevelop and transform them into Industrial Clusters that would provide the robust platform for MSMEs development across the country.”
