Former Chief Security Officer (CSO) to the late General Sani Abacha, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha has urged the youths to make sacrifices and be self-dependent to secure their future.

He gave the charge in Abuja at the unity and peace rally commemorating the nation’s 57 independence anniversary organised by the Young Leadership Association of Nigeria (YLAN).

He said despite the challenges, Nigeria still have lots to celebrate and that the youths should not lose hope or despair that they do not have future in the country.

“All you need to do is to make sacrifices and know that life is not all about enjoyment. You as the youths must make the nation work and you should see yourselves as orphans so that you can be independent and work out how things would work for you,” Al-Mustapha said.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the association, Engr Mohammed Kabir Wanori said that the unity and peace of the country is no-negotiable and urged the youths to distinguish themselves in their endeavours for national development.

“If you make up 70 percent of the total population of the country, you should be the ones determining the leadership and future of our nation,” Wanori said.

He said the insurgency in the North-east and other challenges facing the nation were distractions which should not prevent them from helping the country.

The national president of the YLAN Comrade Kabiru Duhu said the nation is blessed with young and capable human resources and that all that is required is to come together and avoid the distractions that that prevent the aggregation of the talents for national development.
