Increasing cases of sodomy and rape especially with minors are worrying residents of Maraban Jos, a community on the outskirts of Kaduna along the highway that leads towards the Plateau Sate capital, Jos.

Daily Trust gathered that the incidents have involved many children due mainly to poverty, as the children are commonly lured by the offer of money and other materials of some value.

Recently, a 13-year-old girl, who was raped and made pregnant by a 70-year-old man in the area, became a mother at the age of 14.

It has become a trend also whereby young Almajiris are used for sexual intercourse, like an Almajiri boy who was raped a number of times by a man selling fish at the market.

The Almajiri boy who spoke to our correspondent, said the man had been having him with fish as bait. He said, “He gives me fish head every time and uses me through my anus.”

Daily Trust reports that the victim who could not control what came out from his anus due to the damage done to him, said the fish seller warned him severally not to tell anyone about what had been happening between them.

The head teacher of the victim’s Arabic school, Mallam Adam Umar, said they reported the case to a non-governmental organisation (NGO), the Arridah Relief Foundation of Nigeria, to seek justice.

The Coordinator of the NGO, Hajiya Rabi Salihu, said the case had been filed in court. “We will do everything possible to ensure justice prevails,” she asserted.
