The National Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Dr Ramatu Tijjani has urged Nigerians to come together to fight the scourge of drug abuse in the society.

She made the plea yesterday in Abuja at a workshop organised by Cable International News Media, an online news agency, on illicit drug abuse for transport operators in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Dr Ramatu said the dangers in consumption of illicit drugs are enormous.

According to her, the sanctity of the family as a very important institution is being threatened by drug abuse. 

The Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Col. Mustapha Abdallah (rtd) represented by Director of Narcotics, Femi Oloruntoba, told participants that the high rate of illicit drug abuse in the country is a national disaster which requires urgent attention by everyone.

The Project Coordinator, Cable international news media, Comrade Samuel Kayode Idebi, stressed the need for continuous advocacy and campaign on how to reduce the scourge of drug abuse in the society.
