The All Progressives Congress (APC)  in Abia state has been mired in leadership crisis with two factions claiming supremacy.
The faction that has Hon. Nwankpa as chairman is backed by the former governor of Abia, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, while the faction led by Dr. Emmanuel  Ndukwe has the blessing of Chief Ikechi Emenike, a chieftain of APC.
Dr. Ndukwe-led faction of the APC has announced High Chief Ikechi Emenike as its governorship candidate following the conclusion of her governorship primary election held in Umuahia yesterday.
Announcing the results at the party secretariat in Umuahia, the Chief Returning Officer, Prof. Okezie Abariukwu said the party’s candidate pulled a total of 274,133 votes to defeat other six contenders in the primary election.
In a separate  development, Dr. Ndukwe-led faction of APC have also announced the results of the presidential primary conducted by the faction  in the state.
The Chief Returning Officer, Prof. Chris Okpechi, said the conduct of the primary was successfully  carried out in the 17 LGAs of the state.
He noted that the APC presidential election was concluded last night as Abia factional APC affirmed President Muhammadu Buhari as the candidate of the party with 272,259.
Meanwhile, Chief Donatus Nwamkpa-led faction of the APC affirmed President Buhari’s candidacy with 455, 656 votes.
