A Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilọrin has struck out a case of alleged denial of rights brought against the Emir of Ilọrin, Dr Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, and state’s police command by the International Council for IFA Religion.

The 83 traditionalists under the council had dragged the defendants to court over alleged denial of rights.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the traditionalists accused the emir and the police of preventing other Ifa adherents in the state from joining their counterparts across the country in celebrating the Ifa Festival in August, 2023.

Counsel to the traditionalists, Malcolm Omirhobo (SAN), who was absent in court, but represented by one Barrister Adeyemi, brought a letter seeking amendments to the earlier charges. He said although he was aware that the case was for hearing, it was important for the amendments to be made before the continuation of the case.

In his ruling, Magistrate Taoheed Umar, frowned at the action, noting that the case was not for any amendment but hearing.

He said instead of amendments to the earlier charges, it would be better for the court to strike out the case to allow them the opportunity of amendments and bringing the case anew.

He, therefore, ordered for the case to be struck out and asked them to approach the court whenever they were ready.
