Speaking to Daily trust yesterday in Damaturu, top official of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) said the rumour had weakened the confidence of drivers and passengers operating along the busy Damaturu to Maiduguri road.
“The rumour is just three days old now but it has caused serious concern particularly on our drivers because, nobody wants to ply the road for fear of being killed”, he said, adding that at the peak of the rumour, some drivers reported that motorists refused to use the road until the military declared it was clear. He appealed on security outfits in Yobe and Borno to intensify patrols and surveillance along the road daily. He called on the people to avoid spreading rumours that could disturb peace. Rumours had spread in Damaturu that some armed men were seen with sophisticated weapons in Ngamdu village, a few kilometers from Damaturu.
