Stakeholders in the health sector have said that there is an urgent need for collective effort towards a radical medical revolution in Nigeria.
Nigerian Health Watch, Health Reform Foundation (HERFON), and ONE Campaign, who organized a Health Watch Forum with the theme “Making Our Voices Count: Active Citizenship for Health” expressed worry about what they described as a non-existent health system in Nigeria.
Participants at the workshop, who gave different narratives about deteriorating medical condition in Nigeria, agreed that healthcare is more than a medical issue and citizens need to come out of their comfort zone and fight for a better health system.
Other problems identified include structural barriers holding people down, especially the poor who are completely powerless and stressed the need for empowerment and articulation agenda in a tangible format.
Chairman, Board of Trustees of HERFON, Dr. Ben Anyene, who led the panel of discussants at the event, harped on the need for a robust plan that would yield positive results in the health sector.
Edwin Ikhuoria, Country Rep., One Chapter, in his submission, called for a system that redistributes wealth and proper funding of the health sector.
