Suspected gunmen riddled the house of a businessman in Abuja with several gun shots in a failed attempt during a night  attack.
The incident happened at about 1:04a.m. in Naharati community, Abaji Area Council, Abuja, yesterday.
The businessman, Mr Solomon Orah, said that he was sleeping in his bedroom when his wife woke and told him that some people have entered his compound after they scaled over the fence.
He said that he looked through the curtain and saw two armed men already in the compound while the third was on the fence.
He said that the gunmen started shooting when a flashlight was pointed at their direction.
The sporadic shooting, he said, shattered the rear windscreen of his Mazda vehicle and some portions in the house’s wall.
“It was when they started shooting that I crawled back into the bedroom and placed a call to my friend who, in turn, called the police,” he said.
He said that the gunmen escaped into the bush when they became aware of the presence of policemen.
When our reporter visited the scene, empty bullet shells were found on the ground while the building and gate were riddled with bulets.
He said that the gunmen were likely assassins or kidnappers, considering the manner they shot at the building.
“I suspected the attackers to be hired assassins or kidnappers because of the way they came to carry out the operation,” he said.
When contacted, the Abaji Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP David Kolo, confirmed the incident, saying that he mobilised his men to the scene when he received a distress call at about 1:12a.m.
“But we can’t say if the attackers were kidnappers, robbers or assassins,” he said. “We are still interviewing the victim,” he added, while investigation was ongoing.
