The sensitisation so far carried out in Izom Padam in Kwali Area Council, Karmajiji in Abuja Municipal Area Council and Dagiri Bassa, also in Kwali Area Council, was geared toward arming people at the grassroots with veritable information on how to prevent the spread of the deadly virus.
The coordinator of the initiative, Mrs. Asabe Muhammed, said particular attention was paid to vulnerable people in the rural areas, especially women, who take care of sick people in homes.
“We paid special attention to children and women because of their nature. The women always take care of sick people and we had to sensitise them on the need for them to know the exact ailment to avoid dangers. The most vulnerable people are care givers and health workers,” Mrs. Muhammed said.
The initiative, which focuses on providing free healthcare services to indigent rural dwellers, counselled residents of the areas visited to avoid eating bush meat and to cultivate the culture of hygiene.
“We advised them to always wash their hands and avoid body fluids of sick people and unnecessary handshakes,” the coordinator further said.
She further added that she was impressed with the massive turn out of people who turned out for the sensitisation.
