75-year-old Umaru Choji, is definitely the oldest among the suspects paraded by the police in Jos and is yet to come to terms with his offence.
The police say Choji had defiled two girls of 11 and 14 years but the accused says the girls were the ones that seduced him. Though the police say investigation on the case is still ongoing, the grandfather claimed the affair started in May but he put a stop to it on the 4th of June adding however that the girls had brought their guardian to harass him.
“They are big girls; one is up to 14 years. When they brought their grandmother to harass me I told them that I had repented which was why I called off the affair so why were they bringing the woman to harass me, unless they want to be my wives,” he said.
He said his wife goes out to mine tin while he stays at home because of a back injury, adding, “they usually come to watch TV in my room then they started to watch a cassette called Belly. I had to ask them one time that these films they are playing are they matured enough for it? It didn’t occur to me to send them away; I was influenced by the devil.”
When asked to advise other men who may find themselves in a similar position, Choji instead said his advice was to parents who have girls of sexual age to keep an eye on them adding that “these girls came to my bed to do this thing, I didn’t go looking for them; they came to me.”
