Gov. Nasiru El-Rufaí of Kaduna State Government has earmarked N440 million to service the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in the 2017 budget proposal sent to House of Assembly for approval.

A copy of the budget obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) indicated that the amount will be used for the construction and equipping of three women skills acquisition centres in the three senatorial districts.

According to the proposed budget, renovation and re-equipping of Zaria children’s home will consume N80 million.

“While N25 million will be spent on the maintenance of Women Multipurpose Centre, renovation and equipping of Kafanchan and Magajin Gari Children’s Home will gulp N80 million,’’ the document said.

According the budget breakdown, the renovation of the Gazara Reformatory School will cost N25 million and N80 million for the construction and equipping of kitchen suite for children at Magajin Gari.

“Conduct of quarterly monitoring of capital projects N1 million, while N59.020 million is earmarked for the conduct of women economic summit,’’ it stated.

The document also indicated that N20 million was allocated for the conduct of training on entrepreneurship programmes.

“Construction of Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre for N16.4 million while N8 million is for Rehabilitation of VVF patients in Kaduna state.

“While N3,751,200,00 is allocated for the renovation of social welfare offices, N10 million for upgrading of Kaduna Remand Home.’’

It also showed that N100,000 was allocated for the Development of Cottage Industry, renovation and equipping of Kafanchan and Kaduna Remand Home 30,000,000.00,

The government also planned to construct and equip two youth friendly centres in Zones 2 and 3 for N50 million within the fiscal period under report.

In addition, the ministry would construct and equip a women skill centre in each of the three Senatorial Zones, construct one trauma management centre, conduct high level advocacy and sensitisation to state House of Assembly and general public on Genesis Related Bills.

According to the report, the ministry would also conduct a Women Economic Summit next year with part of the amount allocated to it.

NAN also reports that El-Rufai had proposed to spend N215.9 billion in 2017 in the budget estimate he sent to the legislature on Oct. 12. (NAN)
