Gombe schools to reopen Oct 5

Second term begins January 10, 2021 and ends April 16

The Gombe State Government has approved the reopening of all public and private schools in the state with effect from Monday, October 5, 2020.

Boarding schools are to open on Sunday, October 4, while Day schools including Nursery, Primary and Tsangaya (Almajiri schools) are to open on Monday, October 5.

The state’s Commissioner of Education, Dr Habu Dahiru said at a briefing that the ministry would provide child assent forms for COVID-19 testing to schools and parental consent forms for COVID-19 testing of children and wards.

According to the revised calendar, the third term which was abruptly stopped in March, will now run from October 4 to October 23.

“The First term for the new academic session for 2020/2021 will commence on October 25 and end December 18.

“While the second term begins January 10, 2021 and ends April 16 and the third term shall begin on May 2 and runs till August 6, 2021,” he said.

The commissioner urged all the schools to adhere to all the COVID-19 protocols, emphasising that full academic activities will commence on the first day of resumption.
