The Budget Office of the Federation yesterday in Abuja commenced the training of budget officers in Ministries Departments and Agencies of government ahead of the 2024 budget preparation.

The training is acquaint budget desk officers on the 2024 budget processing using the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS).

In his opening remarks, the Director General of the Budget Office of the Federation, Ben Akabueze noted that the GIFMIS platform is deployed to enhance transparency and discipline in the management of public funds.

Represented by the Director Expenditure at the office, Isa Auwalu Gwangwazo said “The training will acquaint MDAs with basic steps and also address the anomalies experienced and noted in the preparation of the 2023 budget with a view of correcting them.,”

Speaking further, he noted that the training will also serve as an avenue “Demonstrate how capital projects are inserted using the GIFMIS project as well as personnel and overhead cost. It will also obtain feedback on how to obtain budget processes,” 

Also in his presentation, the senior  technical assistant to the DG, Prof. Olumide Ayodele said the federal government cannot afford further borrowings owing to the high cost of debt servicing which is why the 2024 budget will be in tune with the policy directions of the current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
