…holds zonal caucus meeting today

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) felt a sense of loss over the decision of former Ogun State Governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel to dump the party for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Daniel had hitherto written to the national chairman of the party, Uche Secondus, informing him of his decision to quit partisan politics.

But 24 hours after, the former governor and Deputy Director-General of Atiku Abubakar campaign, made a U-turn following prodding by his followers and associates, to indicate interest in defecting to the APC.

Daniel, popularly known as OGD, had earlier during the March 9 governorship election mobilised his supporters to vote for the APC candidate, Prince Dapo Abiodun, who eventually won the keenly contested governorship election in Ogun.

Many observers are of the opinion that OGD actually joined APC the day he decided to support the party’s candidate and dump the PDP candidate.

The PDP National Vice Chairman, Southwest, Dr Eddy Olafeso, in a chat with Daily Trust said he personally felt a sense of loss by the decision of OGD whom, he said, remained his friend and brother.

Meanwhile, the Southwest caucus of the party is expected to meet today in Lagos to review the outcome of the 2019 elections with particular focus on the performance of the party in the geopolitical zone.

The meeting, it was learnt, would be convened by the former deputy national chairman and leader of the party in Lagos, Chief Olabode George.
