The 15-year Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) between NISA medical group and the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) at the Garki Hospital saved the government over N10 billion worth of salary payment.

The Chief Medical Director of Garki Hospital, Dr. Adamu Onu, stated this Friday while briefing newsmen in Abuja.

The Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) agreement which commenced in March 2007, expired on March 31, 2022.

He said, “In the last 15 years, we have spent over N10bn in staff salaries alone, not to talk of how much we have spent on equipment and services. We saved the government a whole lot of money.”

Dr Onu said the hospital made giant strides since the partnership.

He said, “The hospital was basically empty and was not functioning at all before the concession. It was closed down for like six years before it was concessioned out in 2007.”

He said the hospital ran the PPP arrangement at no cost to the government “Because government had not provided any subvention for this period of 15 years. We have attended to patients nonstop and we had no strike. We have also trained a number of doctors.”

He said over 18 consultants have been trained and over 180 House Officers have continued to provide services since that time.

He said it is left for the government to decide on the way forward, adding that it should also consider the investments made by the Nisa medical group to improve the hospital.
