The Nigerian Police force have arrested nine prominent members of two rival gangs popularly called Yan sara-suka, after a clash that left several persons injured and over 50 cars smashed around Anguwan Rogo, Anguwan rimi and Konan Shagari, three sub-urban communities in Jos North local government area of Plateau State.
Musa Maigadi, an eye witness, told Daily Trust that trouble started when a rival gang from Konan Shagari stormed Anguwan rogo- Anguwan rimi on Monday evening searching for another prominent rival gang leader who resides in the area.
The gang leader who residents said had a tip-off from an unknown source had escaped before the arrival of the gang. Our correspondent gathered that his absence had angered the gang who went on rampage and smashed cars belonging to residents in the communities.
Eye witnesses said on return, the gang leader had mobilised his group and went on a reprisal to Konan Shagari where more cars were smashed and residents attacked, including eight members of a particular family. The incident which generated serious tension left over 50 cars destroyed by the hoodlums who all dispersed at the arrival of police and soldiers from Operation Safe Haven’s (OPSH) Sector 2.
OPSH Media and Information Officer, Captain Ikedichi Iweha yesterday told our correspondent that the taskforce was still patrolling the area and had warned the community that it would not tolerate such gang activities.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Emmanuel Abu yesterday said nine persons had been arrested with dangerous weapons while the police had conveyed two persons to the hospital for medical attention.
