Nineteen filling stations have been shut down in Sokoto and Kebbi states for selling petrol above the pump price of N145.

Out of the 19 filing stations, 11 were in Sokoto and eight in Kebbi state.

Sokoto Operations Controller, Department of Petroleum Resources Mohammed Makera disclosed this ‎on Monday while speaking on their activities.

He said the affected filling stations were selling petroleum between N148 and N150.

Makera  explained that 18 of the sealed stations were owned by independent marketers and one by a major oil company.

According to him, each of the sealed stations were fined N100,000 per pump.

They were also given two-week suspension of operations, he added.

He advised motorists against panic buying, saying there were adequate supplies of petroleum products in the states.
