Residents said the invaders, suspected to be Fulanis invaded Gidan Dogo and neighbouring settlements along Agyaragu-Gidan Hausa-Doma road.
“They invaded Eggon villages, killing our people and burning houses”, a resident of the area said.
The weekend attack is the third in less than a week. In one of the attacks, some suspected Fulani militia attacked Aluaza, located on the outskirts of Doma town, killing a community leader, Elder Yusuf Akpu.
Akpu was also the father of Daily Trust reporter, Vincent A. Yusuf.
Displaced persons said the armed militia stormed Akpu’s compound and shot him six times in the chest.
“They raided the area and abducted women. They also stole 18 motorcycles,” a resident said.
The state police spokesman, DSP Ugochukwu Theodore, confirmed attacks on some villages in the area, but said information available was too sketchy at the time of filing this report.
He added that the police responded with the deployment of truck loads of men to stop the attacks. He said no suspect was arrested in connection with the attacks.
Meanwhile, the leadership of Eggon people have called on all ethnic groups to sheath their swords.
In a statement, the Eggon Cultural and Development Association (ECDA) said “all ethnic groups were created by God not to exterminate one another, but to use their diversity for the growth of humanity.
The statement which was signed by the National Public Relations Officer (PRO) of ECDA, Mr. Enoch Ali Maku, said: “We appeal to all groups to embrace peace and shun violence which has not and will not help us in anyway.”
The statement came barely two days after Barrister Zachary Zamani Allumaga, legal adviser of Ombatse, an Eggon group, made a similar appeal.
