A female refugee who did not give her name told the BBC Hausa service that they are suffering from hunger and lack of shelter and are in dire need of both.
She said many women and hundreds of children are now taking refuge at the border hopelessly.
“We’re currently living under scorching sun with our children. There are no houses, no trees to hide under. We don’t have food to eat and water to drink; there’s just nothing for us. We only rely on God. We’re in the border between Nigeria and Cameroon,” the refugee said.
“We’re too many to be counted. People are coming out from all the villages to this place for fear of being killed. As I speak, people are still fleeing.”
Kala-Balge is one of the many towns that have come under severe attacks from the Boko Haram members where many people were killed and hundreds of houses razed.
Amidst this hopeless situation, head of the National Emergency Management Agency (NENA) in charge of the north east Alhaji Muhammad Kanal said they were doing their best to assist the refugees but that they are facing serious challenges.
“We have arranged for the items to assist them with. We face challenge in terms of the people that will convey heavy loads for us to such places. The Kala-Balge situation is the one we’re yet to get people to convey the items so we can pay,” he said.
Asked when the agency would reach the refugees, Kanal said “This coming week, if we’re able to get the conveyors. If some people from the area get to know about this, they may come forward to assist in conveying the items.”
