Former managing director of the Nigerian Mining Corporation (NMC), Ambassador Biodun Olorunfemi, has called on banks and insurance companies across the country to take advantage of the opportunities that abound in the nation’s solid minerals sector for the economic development of the country.
Speaking yesterday at a press conference in Abuja, preparatory to the 2016 edition of the International Mining Investment Conference and Exhibition of the Nigeria (IMICON 2016), the former Nigerian ambassador to Namibia said the upcoming conference would discuss the crucial role of public and private finance institutions in funding mining activities in the country.
“For investments in mining, with due diligence, a win-win situation awaits both lender and borrower,” he said, adding that experts in mining finance from the world’s best known mining destinations would be on hand to share their knowledge and experiences.
While commending the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration for its determination to develop the country’s solid minerals sector, he called on the organised private sector to promptly complement the federal government’s efforts by investments that will rejuvenate the economy and lead to significant increase in the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
