The union said that government has agreed to increase wages by 10% but they said it was a far cry from what they deserve. Chairman of JPSNC Comrade Olakunle Olaitan who is also the President of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) stated that the eight unions in the public service under the JPSNC will embark on the strike action if nothing was done by the end of yesterday.

Speaking on their demand for improved wages, Olaitan said “We are not going to take anything less than 75. 37%. How they are going to wriggle out of that is entirely their business.” He added that the leadership of the JPSNC “met yesterday and concluded that if by the close of work today (yesterday) the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria does not respond to our request of wage adjustment of 75. 37% of course we will be constrained to go on five days warning strike starting from Monday.” JPSNC has severally engaged government in negotiations on the way forward but said yesterday that government seems not to understand any language apart from strike action.
