Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter has called for synergy with the government in uplifting sports in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic in the new year 2022.

Comrade Bunmi Haruna, the chapter’s chairman, who made this call in his New Year message, said while 2021 was a mixed bag of blessings and hardship, he is praying for a better 2022.

“It is a mix bag of blessings and hardship as sports brought succour to many Nigerians with good outings at the Olympics and other international competitions in the midst of COVID-19 pandemic,” Haruna said.

“However, the sporting media, a key stakeholder in the success of the sector faced the brunt of the hardship as they suffered neglect from the government. It is my hope and prayers that government will include SWAN in its intervention program this year.

“We thank all our friends that came through for us in the year 2021 and plead for more support in the new year 2022.

“I salute all SWAN members and thank you all for those incredible stories, life-changing moments of sportsmen and women, failures to ultimate successes, issues, challenges and for making millionaires out of noble beginnings.

“These are all stuffs of legends that inspired us all. I want you to know you deserve the best always. We will work with stakeholders for the development of our sector for the ultimate benefit of everyone. 2022 will be a special and memorable year for us all.
