The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) has warned the FCT Department of Outdoor Advertisement and Signage (DOAS) to stop collecting outdoor, signpost and mobile taxes in the council or risk dire consequences.
The Senior Special Assistant on Community Development to the AMAC Chairman, Yunusa Ahmadu Yusuf, who briefed journalists on Tuesday, also warned that anybody caught collecting such taxes without the council’s approval would be dealt with according to law.
He further warned that any taxpayer who paid for DOAS or any other impostor did so at their own risk.
The SSA to the chairman reminded the public that various court rulings had re-echoed AMAC’s sole power to collect such taxes.

He said AMAC’s Chairman, Christopher Maikalangu, had also severally warned that the council would not relinquish or delegate such powers to any agency or company because there were capable hands that would collect the taxes for the council.
The SSA assured that the council would continue to be guided by the by-laws from where it derived its authority.
City & Crime reports that DOAS recently said there had been increased understanding with the area councils in the FCT to collect such taxes on their behalf.
