The Management of the Federal College of Education (FCE), Osiele, Abeokuta, Ogun State yesterday shutdown the institution for two weeks to curtail the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

Daily Trust Saturday learnt that the decision followed the death of a health worker at the institution who died from COVID – 19 related complications.

Two other workers at the College’s Medical Centre equally tested positive for COVID-19, forcing the management to close the institution for two weeks.

The institution’s Registrar, Dr Adedayo Adebayo disclosed this in a statement issued in Abeokuta yesterday.

“Arising from this untoward development, it is incumbent on the college management to immediately close down the college so as to forestall further spread of the virus.

“Consequently, the college management has directed the immediate lockdown of the college activities for the next two weeks,” the statement said.

“Members of staff with ongoing assignments are encouraged to continue to work on them from home. The college management further advises everyone that has had contact with the affected medical personnel recently to subject themselves to the COVID-19 test in order to ascertain their health status and to seek necessary medical intervention”, the statement said.
