The ancient city of Daura is agog as two football rivals, FC Porto of Zango and Ingawa United are set to rumble in the finals of the 2021 Daura Senatorial District President Muhammadu Buhari (PMB) Cup today the Daura Township stadium.
To reach the finals, FC Porto edged out New United while Ingawa United eliminated Galaxy FC Mani in the second semi-final match.
As a curtain raiser for today’s epic clash, Star Rolling FC Daura defeated New United also of Daura 4-2 on penalties after 2-2 in regulation to win the third place match.
The Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Alhaji Sani Abu Daura said President Muhammadu Buhari will be represented by the Minister of Sports, Sunday Dare.
He also said Katsina State Governor, Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, the Secretary to the State Government and other members of the State Executive Council are going to be in attendance.
Daura also named former Nigerian international and Presidential Aide, Daniel Amokachie, Chairman Katsina United, Prince Abdussamad Badamasi and the District Heads of Mani, Dutsi and Kankia Local Government among dignitaries who will attend the grand finale of the grassroots tournament.
He said Governor Masari will be presented with an Award of Excellence for his enormous contributions to sports development in the state.
The LOC Chairman told Daily Trust that the winner of today’s match will smile home with a cash prize of N500,000, two sets of jerseys, three balls and gold medals while the runners up will receive N300,000, two sets of jerseys, two balls and silver medals.
Daura said, for placing third, Star Rolling FC Daura will take home N200,000, two sets of jerseys, one ball and bronze medals just as he said the Most Disciplined team will get N200,000 cash reward.
There will also be Golden Boot for the Highest Goal Scorer, Golden Ball for the MVP and Golden Gloves for the Best Goalkeeper of the tournament.
